How to Up the Bar
Structured Learning Experiences are designed to provide
the comprehensive teaching, guidance, and support that is
required for a cohort of educators to successfully integrate
English language learners into their classroom communities.
SLEs may take place monthly after school for two hours or
during the school day, depending upon teachers' schedules.
Full Day Workshops may be designed to lay the foundation
of basic principles of integrating English language learners, with
specific attention to areas identified as challenges by the staff
through a survey administered by Up the Bar Consulting.
In-Class Mentoring Opportunities provide teachers with
the professional time and attention they need to successfully
apply the learning principles learned during the SLEs. Up the
Bar Consulting can model lessons as well as provide real-time
feedback to teachers as they work with their students. This
component of professional development is the on-the-job
training that is critical to the successful implementation of best
practices.
The Institute is an intensive course of study that takes places
over four full days that will explore the theoretical and practical
aspects of integrating ELLs. Tailored to meet the specific needs
of the staff and the goals of the district, teachers will emerge
from the course with a wealth of knowledge, techniques, and
strategies ready to implement in the classroom. The Institute
can take place over the summer or on Saturdays during the
school year, depending upon teachers' schedules.
