The Golden Rule of Teaching:
Know Your Students!
Cultural Posters
"Families were invited to work with their children to create a poster that best represented their culture. There was no right or wrong way in doing this project. Families picked an event, special foods, places, clothing, and/or words from their native language to teach the class. Students came in with their posters and explained its meaning to the class. For example, we learned all about the Golden Temple in India. One student even brought in sabha from the Muslim culture to demonstrate how she prays to God and another student brought in a chunni that women wear to parties or when they go to temple. The students were so excited to share a piece of their culture with us, and we all enjoyed hearing about it as well!" -Tiffany Ciamarra, 2nd grade teacher @ Carteret School District |
