When I am given the opportunity to work with educators over a number of days, while teaching a graduate course or leading a professional development series, I strategically plan for the participants to engage in a thoughtful mid-term review of what they have learned to date.  In order to challenge and stimulate their creative spirits, educators are given no more than half an hour to collaboratively review their notes to create and perform a song that encompasses an important aspect of their learning.  There is no time for hesitation or resistance.  They get right to work.  Depending on the dynamics of each class, I may assign teams to collaborate or I may allow participants to decide if they want to work alone, in pairs, or in teams of three people.  I am consistently impressed by everyone's imagination and quick wit.  The most important take-away that the educators learn is that the Lyrical Lesson is a wonderful way for their students to review their learning while having fun.  Yes, Virginia, there can be fun in education.  Just ask anyone who has taken a class with me. ;-)
